When using your iPads, seek ways to enhance the learning that is already happening in your classroom. What learning opportunities can you design on your class iPads to improve your students' experience? Offering purposeful tasks, rather than using iPads as free time devices, will help students embrace them as powerful parts of their learning experience. Don't forget that you can manage student use through Guided Access.
Helping students take responsibility for the technology in your room will improve the care of your iPads. Consider having technology teams or helpers in your room to help ensure iPads are returned to your Tech Tub and plugged in to charge. Work with students to establish norms for use, travelling with the iPads, and other appropriate use considerations for your class.
iPads will store student work and photos on the device, rather than in an account. All users of the the device will have access to that work and those photos. Teachers need to be aware of this and delete work and pictures from devices periodically once these projects are no longer needed. Students that sign into apps (Google, O365 etc.) should sign out and delete all app data before letting another student use the device. If not, all data and accounts will be accessible to the next student.
If an app has been approved, but collects student information, it will require parental permission before use. You can download a fillable copy of a permission form here.
iPads in DDSB are managed through a system called AirWatch. You will see an app called Agent on your devices. This allows IT Services to manage devices including tracking location, making apps available, and installing sets of apps. Your ETL or Apple Manager at your school can use this system to clear devices as well.
If your classroom iPads are damaged or require service, help can be found by submitting a Help Ticket to IT services. Anyone can submit a Help Ticket by following the link on the Tech Help Portal.
