What is TN Promise?
Tennessee Promise provides Tennessee high school graduates the opportunity to attend any community college or technical college in Tennessee. TN Promise is both a scholarship and mentoring program. It will provide students a last-dollar scholarship, meaning the scholarship will cover tuition and fees not covered by the Pell grant, the HOPE scholarship, or TSAA funds. While removing the financial burden is key, a critical component of Tennessee Promise is the individual guidance each participant will receive from a mentor who will assist the student as he or she navigates the college admissions process. In addition, Tennessee Promise participants must complete eight hours of community service per term enrolled, as well as maintain satisfactory academic progress (2.0 GPA) at their institution.
The requirements for receiving TN Promise are:
Apply for TN Promise between August 1st - November 1st of your senior year
Attend the Manditory Meeting at your high school in early spring (TBA)
Complete 8 hours of Community Service between November 2nd - July 1st of your senior year
Attend a TCAT, Tennessee Community College, or one of the qualifying Tennessee Universities the fall after you graduate high school

How does it work?
TN Promise is considered a "Last Dollar Scholarship". This means that it will guarantee pay for the left over tuition that is not covered by other federal or state aid programs.
Some things to keep in mind:
This program only works towards tuition. It does not cover books, supplies, dorms, or meal costs.
This program has a strict community service policy. If you miss out on those deadlines, you run the risk of losing your scholarship.
If you drop out before you complete your program and are using TN Promise, you run the risk of having to pay the state back for the TN Promise you have already used.
In this example, Person A receives more than enough help from other state and federal programs so they do not need help covering their tuition costs. In this case, TN Promise covers $0.
Person B has about $3,000 covered of the $4,300 total to cover tuition from other state and federal programs. In this case, TN Promise comes in to cover the remaining amount of $1,300.
Person C does not receive any help from any other state or federal programs so TN Promise comes in to cover all of the $4,300 tuition allowing for the student to attend tuition free where normally that student who have to pay that full amount.
