The FAFSA is an important, required in most cases, part of the College-Going Process.
FAFSA is an acronym that stands for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid
The FAFSA is an application that looks at the finances of the student, and most of the time parents, to determine what type of financial aid that student could receive for college. This form is reviewed by the federal government, state government, and the college to ensure all levels of financial aid are made available for the student to receive.
This application and process is secure via the government website and secure log-in format.
Help to fill out this form can be found through the call center, YouTube videos, and those who can assist like Ms. Badon (College and Career Advisor) and Mrs. Holt (School Counselor).
Remember: If you plan to attend TCAT during the Summer after Graduation, you HAVE TO COMPLETE THE FAFSA FOR BOTH 2024-25 AND 2025-26!! If you do not, you will NOT be able to use TN Promise or any other State Aid!!
Your first step in this process is to determine who will need to contribute to your FAFSA application.
Please see charts below or contact Ms. Badon or Mrs. Holt if you have questions.
Step 2 is to create your FSA ID log-in.
FSA ID stands for Federal Student Aid ID and is your log-in for the FAFSA
After you create your FSA ID, it takes 1-3 business days for your account to be verified. You cannot start the FAFSA until after your account is verified so please do not wait until the last minute to start this process.
Step 3: Filling out the FAFSA
FAFSA Opening Date - TBA
You always fill out the FAFSA for the FOLLOWING school year when you plan to be in college. NOT the current school year.
It is best for the student to log into their account first and complete their half before the parent logs-in and completes their half.
If you are an independent student, please see Ms. Badon for assistance. Parents are not need to complete your FAFSA in most cases, but Ms. Badon can help.
