State of the Schools

April 2019

1. Congratulations:

Peggy Parker was named the Outstanding Secondary Teacher at NRCSA State Conference on March 21. At the FBLA State Leadership Conference on April 6 she was named as the State FBLA Advisor of the year. Peggy did not know she was receiving either award so needless to say she was shocked and is developing some trust issues.

Also at the FBLA Conference Lisa Fox was named as an Outstanding Volunteer for all of her work with our FBLA students over the years.

2. Resignations: Sadie Rotherham has resigned her position as 4th grade teacher at Benkelman Elementary. Sadie and her family are relocating.

3. New staff: The board approved the contracts of two new teachers for next year.

· Sam Cahow will teach high school special education. Sam is from Imperial and is currently a special education student teacher in our district. Sam is a UNL product and has been helping with our track teams this spring.

· Shelby Zoltenko will teach 4th grade at Benkelman Elementary. Shelby is a Loup County High School and Bethany (KS) College graduate. She is currently teaching and helping with volleyball at Superior. Shelby and her family will be relocating to the district.

4. Track project: The board approved the application of base mat and structural spray on the long/triple jump and pole vault runways. Those surfaces as well as the track and high jump facility will now have the same surfaces. This summer we will expand the high jump approach, repair the bad spots on the track (warranty work), surface the high jump, long/triple jump and pole vault facilities and apply the structural spray protective layer to all areas. This work will lead to the closure of the track facility for a while this summer. My apologies to the walkers in advance. It shouldn’t take too long.
