What is Speech?

Prerequisites: None.

Description:  In this class, students will develop their public speaking and verbal communication skills. We will learn speech techniques through Eric Palmer’s PVLEGS framework which is designed to help students become strong and confident speakers. These concepts will not only be useful in the classroom, but will also help them build skills they can use for the rest of their life. Each semester, the students will vote on which speech projects they would like to work on this semester. Project examples include podcasting, stand-up comedy, “How to” tutorials, storytelling, thank you speeches, and Shark Tank. Students will guide the curriculum, but the skills they learn will be the same.
