Tides

After learning about Moon Phases, we can dive deeper into understanding the relationship between the earth and the moon. This relationship also gives us tides, or "the rise and fall of sea levels caused by the combined effects of the gravitational forces exerted by the Moon and the Sun, and the rotation of the Earth"

Spring Tides

Spring Tides occur just after a new or full moon, when the gravitational forces of the moon and sun work TOGETHER. There is the greatest difference between high and low water.

Neap Tides

Neap Tides occur just after the first or third quarters of the moon, when the gravitational forces of the moon and sun are at right angles to each other. There is least difference between high and low water.
