GAME - SET - MATCH
Welcome to tennis! Tennis is an endurance game as well as a quick moving, high-paced sport.
First, you start with a GAME. A game consists of [at least] 4 points winning by 2. Scoring goes as follows: love (zero), 15, 30, 40, game. If you and your opponent are tied at 40 (we call that deuce), either player must win the next 2 points in a row.
Next, you and your opponent are fighting for the SET. There are [at least] 6 games played in a set but upwards of 14. Again, one player must win by 2 sets or a tiebreaker takes place.
Last, we (ladies) play best 2 out of 3 sets (pro-men best out of 5). You can win 2 sets back-to-back and a third set would not take place. If you do so, you won the MATCH.
Hopefully, that basic information gave you a better understanding of the game. Please come out and join us! We'd love to see you on the court!
3 basic things you need (yes, there are more but let's start here)
Attitude - this is a mental game; you will be playing against yourself
Balance - quick feet/movement and an athletic stance
Explosiveness - sprints and explosive moves are needed to get yourself to the ball in order to make the shot then get back to recover
If you are joining us for the first time, I would encourage you to get private lessons. If you've played before, it will still help especially during the OFF season. Depending on the number of girls who come out, tryouts may be held each year. This could happen for the boys team as well. Tryouts will happen around the first or second week of August. Preparation: BEFORE you can join the preseason practice, you must fill out this form. If you want to tryout for the team, you MUST complete your application through Register My Athlete by the end of July. There are specific things you'll need to have done and RMA will lead you through the process. The season spans from August to October. Join our Remind if you are on the GIRLS team! Join Remind (TBD) if on the BOYS team!
If you are joining us for the first time and you are NOT a freshman or older, we will be holding t-cub camps in August. Please join the camp when offered! I would definitely encourage you to get private lessons. Please email me if you need information on a potential coach. If you are NOT a high school member, please do NOT join the HIGH SCHOOL Reminds. Please join KIDS remind.
