HHS Guest Speaker: Healing Lungs May 31, 2pm!
Hello, I'm Zoë Bush, a senior at DC International School and a proud member of the Health Science Academy. My interest in dermatology drove me to join the Academy, and as an African American and Native American woman, I've experienced firsthand the macro and micro aggressions prevalent in the healthcare system, particularly its focus on a specific demographic.
My aspiration is to explore and address skin diseases and disorders in people of color uniquely. I aim to contribute to the creation of treatment plans that cater to melanated skin with a compassionate and tailored approach. In my role as the social and promotions officer for HOSA (Health Operations, Students of America), I've actively engaged with the Health Science Academy, honing my organizational skills and prioritizing various events and assignments over the past three years.
Reflecting on my journey, I take pride in being the first-ever DC HOSA voting delegate and serving as DCI's HOSA chapter's inaugural social and promotions officer. Throughout this experience, Mr. Patel has been an unwavering supporter, pushing me to discover my true passion.
For those aspiring to succeed in the Academy, my advice is simple: be kind to your teachers—they're here to support you, and networking is key. Outside the Health Science Academy, I serve as the president of the Black Student Union (BSU) and the head Varsity Girls' Basketball manager.
Looking ahead, my goal is to become a dermatologist in the next twelve years. This journey entails pursuing undergraduate studies, medical school, and residency. I am excited about the path ahead and grateful for the experiences that have shaped my passion for dermatology and healthcare equity.
