HHS Guest Speaker: Healing Lungs May 31, 2pm!
Hey everyone, I’m Leonardo Borquez Rodriguez, a senior in the 12th grade. Fun fact about me? I'm a die-hard fan of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Go Bucs!
Academic Journey:
My journey into health science wasn’t sparked by an event, but rather by a person—my brother. You see, he took the IT path during his time at DC International, so I wanted to carve my own path, which led me to health science. Over the past two years, my interest has grown, especially during hands-on classes where we got to use CPR dummies, stretchers, and blood pressure cuffs. It's these experiences that have fueled my passion to explore the field further.
Extracurricular Activities:
Currently, I'm not involved in any health-related clubs or community service projects, but hey, that could change in the future if I decide to commit.
Career Aspirations:
While I'm not entirely sure of my exact career path yet, I’m drawn to hands-on occupations that involve patient interaction, like being a physician. My goal is to have a fulfilling career and put everything I’ve learned at DC International to good use.
Challenges and Successes:
One of the biggest challenges I faced recently was having to balance schoolwork while dealing with a nasty illness. I had a Biology IA due and had to do an experiment, but thanks to my brother’s support and some online shopping, I managed to pull through. As for successes, I don’t feel satisfied yet—I believe the best moments are yet to come.
Inspirations:
What inspires me most in the health science field are the workers—the dedication and commitment they show every day. And shoutout to Mr. McCormick and Mr. Patel for being great role models and mentors. I hope to learn as much as they have one day.
Advice for Peers:
To my fellow students interested in health science: Go for it! Don’t be intimidated by the workload or teachers. Everything DCI offers is doable with seasoned teachers to guide you along the way.
Favorite Health Science Topics:
My favorite area of study is the hands-on aspect of health science. While performing CPR may be daunting, learning these skills is invaluable. And this year in anatomy and physiology, I’ve been blown away by the complexity of the human body—it's truly fascinating.
Fun Facts:
Here’s something you might not know about me—I’m a huge fan of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. And when I’m not immersed in health science, you’ll find me watching football or making parlays.
Future Plans:
In the next 5-10 years, I honestly have no clue where life will take me. Plans often change, so I’m just taking it one step at a time. But I do have one milestone in mind: fulfilling my mother’s dream of seeing all her children graduate from college. So, here’s to whatever the future holds! 🎓
