Term 2

OUTREACH AND SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES - TERM 2

Students have the opportunity to volunteer at the Community Centre which is open every day of the year providing free meals and support services to those in need.

Lakes Food Care is a grocery shop that helps people in the local community and surrounding areas. It is 'A hand up. not a hand out' and supported by Foodbank NSW, providing rescued low cost groceries that are generally close to their use by date but perfectly ok for consumption.

Students attending LFC will help to unstack the truck on arrival, as well as to restock shelves and on occasion, will have the opportunity to meet and greet customers.

Provides our students an opportunity to mentor  and formed friendships on a one-on-one adult living with a single or multiple disabilities.  The program is a well organised and chaperoned by the experience staff and volunteers.

Homelessness is a growing issue in Australia, and particularly on the Central Coast.  The Winter Sleepout provides a wonderful opportunity for our students to get a glimpse of the realities of homelessness on a personal level by sleeping rough for one night (Seniors ONLY).

The Sleepout encourages students as well as the teachers, to gain a deeper understanding of homelessness, and the need to raise awareness of the realities faced by people experiencing homelessness, while also allowing opportunities for the collection of funds and other needed items to support Vinnies homelessness services and early intervention in the local community. There are guest speakers, activities and opportunities for fundraising too.
