Grigsby's Gab
Happy Friday Evening, EV Families,
As we wrap up the second full week of school, I have to brag on our staff and students of East View.
The staff have worked diligently to lay a foundation of expectations, procedures, and routines focused on being Respectful, Responsible, Safe, and Kind in all locations of the building. They are holding students to high expectations this year, not only academically, but behaviorally as well.
To brag on the students, we have soooo many students responsive to these expectations! I recently asked students on the morning news to help me keep our restrooms clean, and boy did they! The floors have been spotless this week! Every child can rise to an expectation when we directly set it for them! Students have also been focused on "Getting Better Every Day" with their learning, even if it's just a little bit at a time. We believe in them, encourage them, and empower them to be leaders of their own learning!
With all that being said, it can be easy to focus on the negative, the weight, the worry, but when you look for the positive, it is there every time! One positive can outweigh many negatives. I challenge you to do the same this weekend. Chase the light. Find the positive. 🌻
Have a wonderful weekend!
We hope to see you soon!
Your principal, Mrs. Grigsby

Intermediate WEEK
Friendly reminder for the morning car rider line, please pull all the way up to the FIRST CONE. This will help our car rider line run smoothly! Thank YOU in advance!
We are happy to announce we are able to open our lunchroom back up to visitors starting in September. Below is some information you will want to know if you plan to visit at lunchtime:
Expectations from the District:
Visitors for lunch will be considered volunteers and will need to follow the procedures for approval to be in DCPS schools (background checks, license for check in)
Visitors are expected to remain in good standing with the school with respectful behavior, following all safety protocols, and supporting the expectation of a safe and secure environment for all students.
Visitors at lunch must respect the lunch period and time and space provided. As children return to their learning schedule, the parent/guardian is expected to exit the building.
East View Procedures:
At the beginning of September, we will send out a Google Form for lunch visitors. This will help expedite the check-in process AND will allow us to know how many visitors we will have for spacing and food quantity purposes.
These lunch visits will be every other Friday. Our first lunch day for visitors will be on Friday, September 15th.
*Be on the lookout in EVES Family Memo on September 1st for more info as September 15th approaches**

Happy Friday Evening, EV Families,
The first three days were full of many memories made! All of our staff took the time to get to know each child with fun learning activities, and will continue to do so! We saw so many smiles, laughs, and celebrations. It warmed our hearts!
Additionally, this makes us even more excited and eager to get rolling next week for our first full week of school. We hope your child gets plenty of rest, and we will see them bright and early Monday morning - Ready to Learn!

We NEED EVERY family's help and it only takes about 3 minutes or less! Our school's Title I funding is based upon the number of students who qualify for free and/or reduced lunches. This year breakfasts and lunches will be free for all elementary students, BUT we will still need ALL families to make sure they complete the free/reduced form! Click here to complete the form. THANK YOU!

Happy Friday Evening, EV Families,
To say our staff is in high anticipation and excitement for next Wednesday, Aug. 9 ~ the first day of school ~ would be an understatement! Back to School Night was a huge success! We enjoyed welcoming everyone back! Our EVES Staff is absolutely honored and blessed to have a front row seat to the "Oohs" and "Ahhs" of the first day of school for your precious children. Our PROFESSION is one that we take much pride in.
Additionally, our staff has collaborated to create a NEW mission and vision to represent our goals for this school year and the future years of EVES. Our mission is to develop the whole child by empowering ALL students to learn at their highest level of academic and social success. How will we do that? Our vision is to believe in our abilities as educators and ensure we are ALL lifelong learners. Be present to provide a positive, empathic, fun, and safe learning environment while building strong relationships with ALL children. Collaborate with intentional planning that holds ALL students to high expectations. Offer ALL students rigorous instruction, both academically and socially.
As your new principal, I will put forth every effort and decision on what's best for the students of East View Elementary School. You can hold me accountable to that!
The staff and I are truly grateful to have the opportunity to love, teach, empower, and celebrate each and every child that walks through our doors. We can never thank you enough for allowing us that very opportunity. It will be a beautiful year of learning and growth!
Have a wonderful weekend!
We hope to see you soon!
