Law School fairs and forums are great ways to connect with law school representatives. They take place every year both in-person and virtually.
Greater Charlotte Law School Fair: This event takes place every November at Davidson College. Look for information including the list of attending schools in Handshake.
LSAC Law School Forums: These events are held in cities across the country are great opportunities to chat with admission representatives from a variety of law schools. Look for dates/locations in the LSAC Events section.
Making the Most of a Law School Fair
What to Expect
Similar to a college fair, admission representatives set up their swag at tables.
Dress is usually casual, but dressing to impress is encouraged. If possible, wear other attire besides sweatpants or gym shorts. First impressions are lasting ones.
Questions to Ask
Don't hesitate to ask the admission representatives questions. See below some sample questions you can ask, depending on your academic year; first year students may want to ask different questions than seniors.
Freshmen/Sophomore
1. What types of classes should I take to prepare for law school?
2. What types of leadership roles or extracurricular activities would make me a strong applicant?
3. What skills should I develop now to help me succeed in law school?
4. What types of internship experiences do you look for on applications?
5. What are your thoughts about entering law school immediately after graduation or pursuing bridge-year opportunities?
Junior/Senior
1. Do you prefer letters of recommendation writers to be academic, professional or a mix of both?
2. What is the average GPA and LSAT score(s) for those admitted to your law school?
2. Do you offer merit or need-based scholarships or grants? If so what criteria do you use?
3. What clinical opportunities are offered at your school?
4. Are internships and job opportunities primarily found near your school’s location or do students find opportunities in other geographic areas?
5. What career development resources are available to students? What percentage of students find jobs? What percentage of jobs are found through on-campus recruiting?
