Expectations

You are expected to place your cell phone in your bookbag/backpack before entering the classroom. You have been made aware that you are to receive one warning for the year about having your cell phone visible. You have been made aware that Mrs. Gaston reserves the right to keep your cell phone until the end of class, until lunch, or until the end of the day. Your attitude in giving up your phone is usually the best indicator of when you will receive your phone back.

When you miss a day of school, it is your responsibility to obtain any missed work or assignments. You are expected to check the website (Home > Absent) to find any work you missed during your absence. You are expected to turn in any work you missed within five days of the absence.

If you are absent on a test day, you are expected to complete your test within ten days of the original test date.

You are expected to treat yourself, others, and school property with respect at all times. School property includes, but is not limited to, the classroom, desks, textbooks, and especially iPads. You are also expected to show respect through your actions, gestures, and your words. You have been made aware that any words that are offensive to any group of people is considered hate speech and is considered profanity. This includes but is not limited to hate speech directed towards anyone with a physical or mental disability, sexual orientation, or race.

You are expected to maintain a gum-, candy-, and food-free zone while in the classroom. You are expected to follow the Essential 31 regarding water in a clear container only.

You are expected to follow classroom procedures when getting out of your seat. You have been made aware that the only time you are to get out of your seat during class is to sharpen a pencil and you ask for this permission by holding up your index finger in the air. You have also been made aware that if you have a question regarding what we are discussing, you are to hold two fingers in the air. You have also been made aware that if you would like to contribute to the conversation and discussion, you are to hold up three fingers in the air. You have been made aware that if you have trash, you are to throw it away at the end of class.

You are expected to come to class prepared. If you come to class without your iPad you will be tardy if you have to go retrieve your iPad after the bell rings. You are expected to follow Mr. Van Tyne's definition of tardy: You are considered tardy if you are not seated in your assigned seat when the tardy bell rings.

You are expected to remember that you are brave.

You are expected to remember that you have greatness within you.
