Students received an Introduction Letter on bright green paper.

Students took a Multiple Intelligences Quiz to help determine what kind of learner they are: Verbal/Linguistic, Mathematical/Logical, Musical, Visual/Spatial, Bodily/Kinesthetic, Interpersonal, Intrapersonal, or Naturalistic. Students read the statement and said whether or not they STRONGLY agreed with the statement, MOSTLY agreed with the statement, SOMEWHAT agreed with the statement, or that the statement did NOT describe them. Then students used the data to chart the information on the back page of their packet. If you were absent, please pick up a copy on the Bookshelf in the proper folder.

Students received a triangle bunting that will be a class project. Students were instructed to decorate the front AND back of their bunting with color. Students were instructed to write a word on their triangle that would put them in a better mood if they were having a bad day. For some students, they wrote their favorite food - for others, it was their bed. Students were instructed to put the first letter of their first name, first letter of their last name, and their period number somewhere on either side of the triangle to receive credit.
Students also received a feather. Students were instructed to color the front of the feather in any way they desired - one color, multiple colors, etc. Students were instructed to write their first name, last name, and period number on the back of their feather.

Students took a Quiz on the Landform Regions of South Carolina. They were to fill out the map with the correct spelling, capitalization, and labelling of each of the regions. A message was sent out on Tuesday through Remind. Students had the opportunity to earn a surprise. This assignment is due by 2:57pm (bell at the end of 7th period) in order to qualify for the prize.
Students were assigned homework the first week of school to sign up for Remind. It has been 15+ days since homework was assigned. Any student that has not signed up for Remind by end of day, Friday, September 6, 2019, will have Silent Lunch for one week. Students were reminded 3-4 times a week to sign up for Remind and were already made aware they would have Silent Lunch had they not signed up for Remind.
Students watched three videos. (Videos are available on our website: Content > Videos) . They watched Native Americans, European Explorers, and Life in the Colonies. Students were instructed to write down five facts about each video in their SSJ. After discussing each of the videos, students wrote down any additional pertinent information. No handout needed for this assigned. Completed entirely in the student's SSJ.

Students will take their Digital Citizenship Quiz. Students must earn at least an 80% on their quiz in order to qualify to take their iPads home. Students have been made aware that this quiz will count as a quiz grade for first semester. Students have also been made aware that they have multiple attempts and to not settle for an 80 when they could have a perfect score.
Any student who is absent will have to make up this quiz during lunch on the day they return to school.
Students received two handouts for two PowerPoints (8-1.2 and 8-1.3). The students were then instructed to go on their iPads, after they completed their DC Quiz, and complete the handouts using the PowerPoints. Students were given a Quizizz for Falcon Focus to help review for their Unit Test on Friday. The Quizizz was ten questions. Students had over five minutes to complete as many attempts as they were able. They were informed that their highest grade would go in the book and that there was an opportunity to earn bonus points for future assignments.
Students completed their handouts using their iPads to find the information on my class website. 8-1.1, 8-1.2, and 8-1.3 . All handouts should be completed on student's own time if not completed with the opportunities we had during multiple days in class.
Students who were completed with their handouts and had less than a 100 on their Digital Citizenship quiz were instructed to log back into Schoology and earn a perfect score on their DC Quiz.
Students then worked in groups to complete a review for their Unit Test on Friday. The Quizizz had 20 questions. Students were able to work as a group and use their notes. Students had plenty of time to get through at least one attempt if they were on task. Students were instructed to choose their groups wisely as they would be graded as a group and not as individuals. Students were allowed to work independently if they chose.

Students were given a piece of paper to create a tourism brochure for one of the colonies: New England, Middle, or Southern.
The goal of the brochure is to entice immigrants to come to their area and settle. Students were instructed to list reason(s) why their colony (region) is better than the others.

Select brochures will be feature in the PLC meeting: who did not understand the assignment / who did not give their best effort, who understood the assignment and did the bare minimum, and who went above and beyond what was required of them.

HOMEWORK: On the class website, students need to access the Reading Guides under CONTENT > Reading Guides > 8-1.4 Significance of Enslaved and Free Africans in South Carolina.
Students must write the question, number, and the answer in complete sentences in their SSJ. This homework assignment is due tomorrow, Tuesday, September 17, 2019 by 8:30am. To submit their homework, students need to take a picture (pictures) of their completed assignment. They need to upload the pictures into Schoology under the Reading Guide 8-1.4 assignment. Students need to make sure they submitted all pictures of all eleven questions to receive full credit on the assignment. Submissions are time stamped through Schoology and the system lets me know which are submitted after the deadline.

I had to leave campus today for my child. The following message was on my door before students reported to the media center. Students need to access the SC Need to Know Facts on our website. Students will use Standard 8-2 to create a quiz. They need three questions from 8-2.1, 8-2.2, 8-2.3, 8-2.4, 8-2.5, and 8-2.6. In total, students will have 18 questions.
Students will name their quiz: First Name Last Name 8-2.
Students have all the answers. They need to take the statements and make them into questions with four answer choices. Students need to list the indicator after their question. Examples below:

Students had a Quizizz to help prepare for their upcoming Benchmark. It was all review. Students had the opportunity to earn extra credit.
Students completed a FourSquare assignment. Students were to complete a FourSquare assignment in class. Students were assigned to have a proper heading: Name, Date, Period Number. 8-4.1 in the top left corner. 8-4.2 in the top right corner. 8-4.3 in the bottom left corner. 8-4.4 in the bottom right corner. Assignment submitted in Schoology. If absent, you have five days from the date of your return to complete and turn in to Schoology.
When students finished, they were able to study for their two upcoming Vocabulary Quizzes this week. When all students were finished, we played Quizlet Live.

Mrs. Gaston was out with a sick child. Students were expected to report to the split plan. Students were to pick up a handout that was outside my door. Students were expected to fill out PowerPoint 8-4.1 packet (contains three PowerPoints 8-4.1, 8-4.2, and 8-4.2 Sectionalism). Students will turn in PowerPoints on Thursday, December 19.

5th and 7th Period students will take Quiz on Monday for Unit 7 Vocabulary, Part B as Mrs. Gaston was absent. These students were given instruction to complete a Quizizz. The paper with the code was taped on the door as well as the front white board. Students were expected to make at least one attempt on the assignment.
A Remind message was sent out with the codes for the Take Home Quiz that will close on Friday, February 21 at 1145pm.

Students were assigned two assignments in Schoology (Quarter 3 / Unit 8: Farming & Industry). The first is Industry in South Carolina. Instructions are in Schoology. The second is Industry in South Carolina: Word Search. Students will find all 14 terms (the terms from the 1st assignment) hidden in the word search. Both assignments due by 345pm. Students had the entire class period to work on both.
