It is vital that students maintain proper behaviors and attitudes while at school. Every student is entitled to the safest and most productive learning environment possible. When students interfere with the learning environment and the rights of other students to learn and feel safe, teachers and administration will promptly address the situation. Student expectations are outlined in the Code of Conduct linked here and on the home page. At MMS respect and kindness are the 2 main expectations of students, as well as adults. If these 2 expectations are followed then there will be limited disruptions and behaviors that need to be addressed.
Below is a list of general expectations and the most frequent issues that come up, however, see the Code of Conduct for the full scope of expectations.
Students go promptly to their classrooms while transitioning.
Students are not horse playing or being excessively loud while transitioning in the hallways. Students putting hands on other students, even being playful is inappropriate. ( ex: Neck slaps, arm burns, flat tiring, etc.)
Cell phones are turned off and put away and kept away during school hours. Each classroom and office has a phone that students can access should they need to contact home or parents needing to contact them. If a phone is taken 3 times the parent/guardian will have to come pick it up in the front office for every subsequent violation.
-Parents should monitor their students use of social media outside of school hours, student issues that evolve outside of school need to be handled by parents, this is not the duty of the schools. However, if it is brought into the school and disrupts learning it will be handled as such.
-Students are not permitted to take photos or videos of other students or staff without their permission.
-Students videoing or photographing other students engaged in aggressive behavior, such as a fight, will be disciplined in the same manner as those engaged in the aggression. ( Ex: Videoing a fight = 3 days Out of School Suspension)
Ear buds or headphones are not permitted during school hours except for if needed during a lesson or testing. This is a safety issue, students must be able to hear instructions at all times.
Students should dress appropriately. Mid-drifts should not be visible and any sensitive areas should be covered. Parents will be asked to bring a change of clothing if necessary. Slippers and pajama bottoms are not encouraged. Athletes are encouraged to dress out on game days. Hats are only permitted for Spirit days.
Students will talk respectfully to all staff and will treat the building/school property with respect.
Students cannot jump on buses that are not their designated bus. Also, students cannot exit a bus at another location unless prior arrangements are made with the front desk.
Students cannot be picked up or go home with other students leaving early without prior arrangements with the front desk.
Students being disruptive in the classroom will be removed to allow the educational process to continue for the other students.
Students that do not attend school cannot attend a school activity on the same day, this includes sports. (Ex: absent from school, cannot attend the dance)
Academics, attendance and behavior impact a student athlete's participation in their sport. Students can be kept from practices, games, or removed from the team due the any of these concerns.
Students can have water in the classroom and halls but other drinks are not permitted.
Students are not permitted to buy/sell to other students.
Students are not permitted to carry large quantities of money. Should a student reveal they are carrying a large amount, it will be placed in the office safe and parents will be contacted to come to the school and pick up the money.
Students will not use inappropriate language.
Students cannot display public affection, such as hand holding, kissing, embracing, or the like. (no romance in Middle School)
Students may not carry medicines, including non-prescription. Parents must submit a form to the nurse that allows the nurse to administer Tylenol or IB.
