Solos, Duos, Trios

Those wishing to do a Solo/Duo/Trio for the 25/26 season must turn in a request prior to auditions (on Audition Registration Form) and be able to execute “specials requirements” (See below)

Parents and Dancers should consider the additional cost, rehearsal time, and responsibility before submitting this request.  Choreographers are carefully selected for dancers based on strengths, weaknesses, and emotional reinforcement. 

Suggestions for a choreographer are welcome but may not be honored. 

The VIBE faculty are professionals and work closely with dancers in preparing these “specials” and dancers for the stage and outside feedback must be approved before solicited.

Financial obligation: 

Choreo usually arranges between $500-$1000

Cleaning – dancer billed for 3 privates, IF your dancer would like more cleaning time that can be scheduled, and parent should contact VIBE director.  We will not schedule more than 3 cleanings without a parent request.

Costume $150-$300

1-Minute Solo Requirements - for Dancers Auditioning for Specials:

• Solo MUST be in the genre that you wish to compete a special in. For example, if you are requesting a Hip Hop solo for 25/26 season, you must perform a Hip Hop solo for the audition so we can evaluate your skills in that style.    (IF you are auditioning for multiple styles/specials just pick one style for the solo - no need to perform multiple solos for the audition) 

• Dancers must include the following in their solos:

  • For Dancers Requesting a special in style of - Contemporary, Jazz, Open, Lyrical, or Musical Theatre:  

    • Turn Category = Select 2 Skills from the list to demonstrate 

    • Leap Category = Select 2 Skills from the list to demonstrate 

    • Flexibility Category = Select 1 Skills from the list to demonstrate 

    • Performance Elements = ALL elements should demonstrated

  • For Dancers Requesting a special in style of - Tap:

    • Fundamentals & Clarity = Select 2 Skills from the list to demonstrate 

    • Speed & Articulation = Select 2 Skills from the list to demonstrate 

    • Advanced Technique & Tricks = Select 1 Skills from the list to demonstrate 

    • Performance & Musicality = ALL elements should demonstrated

  • For Dancers Requesting a special in style of - Hip Hop:

    • Footwork & Fundamentals = Select 2 Skills from the list to demonstrate 

    • Grooves & Musicality = Select 2 Skills from the list to demonstrate 

    • Tricks & Power Moves = Select 1 Skills from the list to demonstrate 

    • Performance Elements = ALL elements should demonstrated

  • Following the solos performance, dancers may be asked to perform additional skills that were not shown in the solo. Dancers should be prepared to demonstrate any of the skills on the Requirements below if/when asked by the director.
