Saving Work in a Standard Form

Pixie: one or two Pixie slides (no sound) - export as a .jpg

  1. click Export at top
  2. make sure Format is JPG
  3. click Export
  4. then Save (make sure to save it in your Best Work folder in your Google Drive)

Pixie: a single Pixie slide with sound or several Pixie slides - export as a .mp4

  1. click Share at top
  2. on right, click Video and then Create then Expert Mode
  3. click on mp4
  4. then Export (make sure to save it in your Best Work folder in your Google Drive)

Pages document: export as a .pdf

  1. go up to File menu
  2. click on Print
  3. click on PDF (lower left)
  4. click on Save as PDF (make sure to save it in your Best Work folder in your Google Drive)
  5. OR go up to File menu, click on Export, then Best in pulldown menu

iPhoto: export as a .jpg

  1. click on the photo
  2. go up to File menu and click Export
  3. Make sure Kind says JPEG
  4. click on Export
  5. click on Save (make sure to save it in your Best Work folder in your Google Drive)

Keynote: a single keynote slide - export as a .jpg

  1. go up to File menu and click Export
  2. click on Images
  3. click on Next
  4. click on Export (make sure to save it in your Best Work folder in your Google Drive)

Keynote: more than one slide - export as a .mov

  1. go up to File menu and click Export
  2. click on QuickTime
  3. in Playback Uses choose Manual Advance or Fixed Timing, then click on Next
  4. click on Export (make sure to save it in your Best Work folder in your Google Drive)

Graph Club: save as a .pdf

  1. open Graph Club file
  2. go to up to File menu
  3. click on Print Graphs
  4. add your name and title
  5. click on Page Setup and click on Landscape
  6. click OK
  7. click Print and then Save as PDF

GarageBand: turn it into an audio file (mp3) or m4a (for podcast with images)

  1. open GarageBand file
  2. go up to Share menu
  3. choose Export to Disk, AAC Encoder for podcast with images or MP3 Encoder if sound only, click Export, then Save (make sure to save it in your Best Work folder in your your Google Drive)


Organizing Your Portfolio in Google Drive


  1. Create a Grade __ Best Work folder in your Google Drive
  2. Move any items in Google Classroom and Google Drive that should be saved as examples of this year’s work into Grade __ Best Work folder (your teacher may have specific items he/she wants you to save!)
  3. On your own time, copy any pictures or videos you want to keep into that folder (examples: trout pictures and videos for grade 4, Nature's Classroom pictures and videos for grade 5)
  4. Delete everything left in your Google Drive except your Google Classroom folder.
  5. If you are leaving Danbury Public Schools or if you wish to, at home use Google Takeout to download your name folder to a home device.

Grade 4 - How to copy folder of Trout pictures & Movies (because right now the pictures and movies are only shared with the students - if they want their own to keep forever they must make their own copies):

In the Google Drive web interface...

  1. Create a new folder and name it Trout Release 2016.
  2. Open the Pre-existing folder called Gr. 4 Trout Release April 2016, select all the files, right click (or ALT click) and hit copy.
  3. Select all the copies, right click (or ALT click) and hit move to. Select the New Folder you made called called Trout Release 2016.
  4. Put the trout folder in the grade 4 best work folder.


How to create a folder

  1. Go to drive.google.com.
  2. On the left, click New > Folder.
  3. Enter a name for the folder.
  4. Click Create.
