Hi AIS Families!
My name is Jennifer Nice, and I’m excited to be the School Library Media Specialist at Western Connecticut Academy for International Studies. Before becoming a librarian, I spent more than 25 years working in the marketing research field, followed by over five years as a high school library paraprofessional. These experiences shaped my passion for information, inquiry, and helping others grow as learners. I hold a Master of Library Science degree from Southern Connecticut State University and I am a first-year teacher with a Connecticut 062 Library Media Specialist certification.
I believe the library should be an inclusive and welcoming space where every student can find books that act as mirrors, windows, and sliding glass doors - helping them see themselves, connect with others, and explore new worlds. My goal is to make the library a place where curiosity and creativity thrive.
Outside of school, I love adventure and travel, often sparked by the stories I’ve read. One book-inspired dream took me on a yacht race around the world, where, despite being new to sailing, I trained and competed with a team that finished third. Another long-held goal finally came true when I trekked to Mount Everest Base Camp via the Chula Pass this past May, a journey more than 20 years in the making. When I’m not off on big adventures, I enjoy being outside in nature closer to home with my husband and our two dogs.
