We believe all children at Chapel Hill Preparatory should receive the best first and differentiated instruction that will meet the needs of every student. This is essential in order for them to read and write on or above grade level and become lifelong learners.
In our department, we envision a future where all children at Chapel Hill Preparatory have the reading and writing skills necessary to reach their full potential. To accomplish this, teachers from K-5th grade are expected to:
Engage in daily Guided Reading with fidelity and monitor students progress using the "Feedback for Learning" approach to foster their academic growth and collect data to plan interventions to avoid or close gaps
Monitor students reading level progress by doing running records weekly, administer BOY, MOY and EOY assessments and develop flexible groups to work during Guided Reading
Develop class tasks for students to continue practicing daily reading and writing skills through our station rotation model that includes a collaborative, independent, and technology station
Design lessons that encourage writing across content by using reading responses activities and embedded annotations
Apply daily Read Aloud to model reading skills and fluency.
