We believe every student deserves to grow and become accomplished in the areas of mathematics and science. Elementary math and science content holds the building blocks for deep mathematical understanding. At Chapel Hill Preparatory, we want to ensure all students have a solid foundation and are able to unlock doors to future careers in STEM if they so choose.
In the mathematics and science departments, we envision a future where all children at Chapel Hill Preparatory have the conceptual understanding allowing for the application of real world problem solving while developing skills that promote mathematical success in the secondary school years. Teachers from K-5th grade are expected to:
Engage in daily problem solving activities with fidelity and monitor students progress using the "Feedback for Learning" approach to foster their academic growth and collect data to plan interventions to avoid or close gaps
Monitor student fluency levels by doing weekly fluency activities and assessments
Develop class tasks for students to continue practicing skills through our station rotation model that includes a collaborative, independent, and technology station
Design lessons that encourage writing across content by writing about thought processes and learning objectives found in mathematics and science lessons
Create hands on experiences in both math and science
Apply Reading in the Content to connect to the current mathematical learning objective.
