Student Planners
In 4th grade, students are expected to take more ownership of their learning — and that means building strong executive functioning skills. These are the mental processes that help us plan, stay organized, manage time, follow directions, and control impulses. They’re essential not just for academic success, but for life skills like responsibility and independence.
One tool we use daily to support this growth is the student planner. Students are learning to record assignments, manage deadlines, and reflect on their responsibilities. By developing the habit of using their planner consistently, they begin to take control of their learning — and that’s a big step toward becoming confident, self-directed learners.
All assignments will be recorded in your child's planner at the beginning of each week. The day an assignment is written is also the day it becomes available in Google Classroom for your child to complete. You can support this at home by checking your child's planner together, encouraging positive routines, and celebrating progress in organization and follow-through. Small steps now lead to big growth over time!
Google Classroom
Another great way to stay connected to your child’s learning is by having them show you their Google Classrooms. Each subject has its own class page where teachers post assignments, announcements, and important resources. Checking in together regularly can help your child stay organized, keep track of deadlines, and take ownership of their responsibilities.
After the first couple of weeks, your child will be fully familiar with navigating Google Classroom. If you would like to view their assignments at any time, your student can log into their account and share their progress with you.
Even a quick weekly check-in can make a big difference in helping students stay on track and feel supported — especially as they learn to manage more responsibilities in 4th grade.
