It's April! That means prom is right around the corner for all Grants Pass High School juniors and seniors. This year is especially significant for students, as it is the first prom that feels normal after the previous year's proms being cut or altered by the pandemic. Here is all you need to know about this year's 2022 Prom!
This year's Grants Pass High School's Prom feels well-earned and more special than ever in light of previous years. Fortunately enough, GPHS had the greenlight to hold prom this year! The event, as always, is being organized and planned for by GPHS' National Honor Society (NHS), and they do not take the task lightly. NHS has facilitated many Prom meetings over the months to get a head start on preparing for the event. Many NHS members formed different Prom committees to help plan. There is a committee for almost everything-- music, food, decorations, and even a photo booth! This year's Prom theme is Fairytale, and it could not be more perfect for 2022. The ability to have a prom in light of the pandemic is a huge privilege. Many people did not think that it would happen-- a fairy tale come true, indeed! National Honor Society Treasurer, Pooja Patel, gives this statement about what her work on Prom means to her: "Working on Prom means giving a lifetime of memory for high schoolers to enjoy a night of celebration. I am grateful I got this opportunity to help plan Prom and give this memorable experience to people!".

The GPHS Prom will take place on Saturday, April 23rd. The dance will be from 7:30-11:00 pm. Chaperones will be present. Tickets will be $30, and you can buy them from either the Bookkeeper in the core building or at the event itself. Cards are not accepted as payment, so make sure to bring cash or a check from a legal adult. Get to the dance a bit early if you want to get the most of your money because, sometimes, the lines get long. If you are socio-economically disadvantaged or money is an issue, please get in contact with one of the NHS advisors for financial aid possibilities.
The event will have dancing, desserts, goodie bags, a photo booth, a voting booth for those running for prom court, and much more. If you want to bring a date that goes to a different high school, then make sure to grab the form in the front office for them to fill out so they can come. The venue will be in either the GPHS commons or quad. The exact place at the high school is subject to change, depending on student input and the weather. Masks are not required, so there is no need to search the web to find one that matches your prom outfit this year-- hoorah! Speaking of the NHS advisors. If you are feeling especially appreciative, make sure to show your gratitude to Mrs. Wright and Mrs. Rozell for working tirelessly to make prom happen! Another huge thank you to NHS co-presidents Kye Daywitt and Meira Rice for being the head prom planners for this event. All officers truly sacrificed a ton of their time and labor to ensure the quality of this Prom. As a member, Prom committee member, and officer of NHS myself, I see just how much time, stress, and effort has gone into planning this event. Bryce Robertson, National Honors Society Public Relations Officer, said that "Prom is one of those unforgettable memories from high school, so getting to work with some of my favorite people to plan it has been an incredible ride that I will never forget, and I am happy to help provide this experience for so many of my peers!".
NHS members and committee-officers have dedicated countless hours to organizing and volunteering for prom. They have an endless appreciation for students supporting prom and staff for chaperoning. (Let me tell you, it is thankless work supervising teenagers who think they know how to bust down to Jay-Z). Overall, this event is expected to be a great celebration of not only surviving high school but also doing it within the challenges of a pandemic.
