Welcome New Principal

Dr. Carlos!

Have you noticed a change at Plainfield this year? People are smiling more thanks to our wonderful new principal, Dr. Lisa Carlos!

Marco, a second grader recently told his teacher that he likes having Dr. Carlos as his principal because "she always smiles and that makes me feel good."

Dr. Carlos was born in the Chicago suburbs, is married and loves doing yoga and spending time with her family. She is thrilled to be working at Plainfield. Her favorite part is working with the students and visiting classrooms. Before becoming a principal, she taught Spanish for many years. We are happy she joined the Plainfield family and look forward to many wonderful years ahead.

Dear Emoji:

I have trouble focusing in class. I am easily distracted by noise and I have a friend who keeps talking to me when we are supposed to be working. I don't want to get my friend in trouble or lose my friendship, what should I do?

Dear Concerned Student:

Thank you for addressing your problem. Other kids may be having the same issue. You should ask to speak privately to your teacher and then share your problem. Your teacher can handle the situation without mentioning your name. You can also tell your friend to stop distracting you and see if that works.

Apple Cheddar Muffins

Ingredients

1 cup Traditional Whole Wheat Flour

1 cup Unbleached All-Purpose Flour

2 tablespoons sugar

1 tablespoon baking powder

½ teaspoon salt

1 cup peeled, chopped apple

4 ounces Sharp Cheddar, grated (about 1 cup)

2 large eggs

1 cup milk

4 tablespoons Salted Butter, melted

Directions

PREHEAT oven to 400°F. Butter 12 muffin cups or coat with nonstick cooking spray

STIR together in a mixing bowl whole-wheat and white flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. Add apples and cheese and toss to combine.

WHISK eggs lightly in another bowl. Whisk in milk and butter. Make well in center of dry ingredients; add milk mixture and gently stir in dry ingredients from side until just combined.

DIVIDE batter among prepared muffin cups. Bake for 20 minutes, or until muffins feel firm when lightly pressed on top. Cool and enjoy!

Before The One and Only Ivan was selected as our book for Plainfield Reads, we surveyed over 100 students to see what other choices they wanted. Wonder came in first followed by Harry Potter. Some other books that were chosen included BFG, Captain Underpants and Smile. You can still check out these books in the LMC .

What is a Hurricane?

A hurricane is a storm with violent wind of 74 miles or greater. It usually happens near beaches and oceans.

Hurricane Michael

Hurricane Michael hit the Florida Panhandle with frightening fury. In terms of wind intensity, that made it much stronger than Hurricane Florence, which had winds of 90 mph when it blew ashore in North Carolina last month.

It was also the first major hurricane (Category 3 or above) to strike the Florida Panhandle since Hurricane Dennis in 2005. Hurricane Michael, with 155 mph winds at landfall, is the strongest storm to make landfall in the continental US since Hurricane Andrew in 1992.

Before Michael made landfall, about 30 million people were under a hurricane watch or warning, or tropical storm watch or warning, across six states (Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina).

Fall Fest was a blast with lots of crafts, food and fun! Our next big Plainfield event will be on November 8th. Tell your parents about this awesome night of fun when we get to celebrate The One and Only Ivan with cool activities.

MOVIE REVIEW - THE INCREDIBLES 2

Hi! Today I am going to be telling you what I thought about Incredibles 2 when I watched it.

I thought Incredibles 2 was amazing. The characters are Frozone, Elastigirl, Violet, Mr, Incredible Dash and a few more. The main thing that happened was Elastigirl was chosen for top secret spy to bring superheros back. While that was happening, Dash was exploring the new house that they were living in. One part that I thought was funny was the part where Dash was pressing all the buttons for the electronics and then Mr. Incredible was really mad. This is what I thought about Incredibles 2. Have you ever watched incredibles 2? If you have what were your thoughts about it?
