The Academies at GJHS support all students in engaging in a rigorous capstone project experience. A capstone project should be a culminating academic and intellectual experience for students that challenges them to pursue a problem or service learning project beyond the classroom. Should a student choose to complete a capstone project, it should be displayed in their Tiger Portfolio; however, the portfolio alone does not represent a capstone project for The Academies at GJHS*.

What is a Capstone project? A Capstone investigates and attempts to solve a problem in your community. It might look like:
A set of experiments organized around a central problem
A service learning project designed to support the local community
An independent research project culminating in a public presentation of your findings
A hands-on passion project vetted by industry professionals and refined over time, culminating in a public presentation of your project, its impact on you and your community
How do I complete a Capstone project?
GJHS has three “built into the school day” opportunities for students to pursue Capstone projects. Students who are not a part of these programs can develop an Independent Capstone instead. Completion of any of those four Capstone options qualifies for use towards an Endorsement with Distinction.
