It's okay to not be okay
Everyone has bad days. What is the difference between a bad day and a potentially dangerous situation?
Talk to your parent/guardian, counselor, or a trusted adult (teacher, doctor, etc.) RIGHT AWAY if you notice yourself or a friend/family member exhibiting any of the possible warning signs:
• Statements that convey a sense of hopelessness, worthlessness, or preoccupation with death, (“Life doesn’t seem worth it sometimes”; “I wish I were dead”). These statements could be made verbally or on social media.
• Behaviors that are different from their norm; specifically anxiousness, irritability, hopelessness, loss of interest, drastic changes in mood or personality, changes in sleep, looking for ways to kill themselves, telling people “goodbye.”
• Situations like loss; the death of death of a loved one; getting in trouble at home, in school, or with the law; or impending changes in which someone feels scared or unprepared are difficult for anyone; these situations could cause someone who is already struggling to think about suicide.
HEALTHY RELATIONSHIPS
According to loveisrespect.org, "All relationships exist on a spectrum, from healthy to abusive to somewhere in between. Below, we outline behaviors that occur in healthy, unhealthy and abusive relationships." (image credit to loveisrespect.org)
This spectrum applies to all types of relationships: romantic, friendship, family, etc. For more information on healthy relationships, talk to your counselor and/or check out loveisrespect.org.
