If you plan on playing sports in college, students are responsible for registering with the NCAA.
Students are responsible for making sure their classes are NCAA-approved. All NCAA-approved classes will have a green check mark next to the class in the FMHS Course Guide. Visit with your counselor or Jenny Wolf if you have any questions.
The special education department at Fruita Monument High School is here to support students with an Individual Education Plan in a variety of ways. We closely work with the counseling department and administration to make sure that each student's academic needs are being met. We offer a range of classes to serve students from functional classes, to resource classes, to inclusive co-taught general education classes. The staff in the special education department also work closely with the School to Work Alliance Program (SWAP), Department of Vocational Rehabilitation, as well as the on-campus college adviser in order to help prepare our students for their adult lives.

Curious about Gifted Programming at High School?
Our D51 Gifted Department and K-12 staff support students to grow and develop academically, socially, and emotionally. As students progress into high school, the goal is to have students take more ownership of their growth and advocate for support. Different students are ready for this at different times; therefore, we set up different levels of support at high school.
When a student transitions from middle school to high school, their GT Teacher meets with the HS GT Liaison. This provides a bridge between staff, but it is also important for students and families to be prepared. There are no specific classes for GT in high school, but there is specific support.
At the beginning of the year, high schools use academic and student-reported data to determine each student's current level. High school Gifted and Talented Liaisons look to see if a student is continually growing and able to manage social and emotional challenges. Depending on the needs of the student, the HS Liaison will help set up one of these levels of support...
Level 1- This includes all school-wide ways of supporting students. This level will be on the group email list and receive monthly newsletters. However, students in this group will NOT be asked to develop individualized goals as part of an Advanced Learning Plan (ALP), but they will have an Individualized Career Academic Plan (ICAP) and general ALP goals. There is evidence that students in this category currently do not need direct guidance or oversight in terms of academic or social-emotional goals. In other words, these students are successfully managing their workload and goals independently, as evidenced by data, in order to realize their high potential.
Level 2 – Students with this level of support will be on the group email list and receive monthly newsletters. Students in this category will be supported in developing individual goals as part of an Advanced Learning Plan (ALP). Once students have developed their ALP, the GT Liaison, advisory teacher, or mentor (chosen by the student) will check quarterly on progress towards goal(s) and other needed support.
Level 3 - This is the most supportive level. Students will receive monthly newsletters, and information for GT students, and will be supported in developing individual goals as part of an Advanced Learning Plan (ALP). In addition, the GT Liaison, advisory teacher, and/or mentor (chosen by the student) will personally be checking in with these students every 2-4 weeks. Students in this group might struggle with a certain issue and/or need more consistent oversight and guidance from staff in order to stay on track. These levels of support are flexible and can be increased at any time with student, family, and/or staff input.

Their programs all use a hands-on work-based model of instruction. The students run an actual restaurant & floral shop, build sheds, repair lawnmowers, fix computers, and prune rose bushes for our programs and sometimes our community!
