As the Dean of Pathway Learning at Vista Ridge High School in beautiful Colorado Springs, CO, my job entailed creating a four-year progression of courses called Pathways on campus to ensure that students are developing employability skills, researching and reflecting upon a multitude of post-secondary options, as well as understanding how their courses correlate with those post-secondary options. In addition, I met with individual students to create a four year plan of study with their aptitudes, strengths, and skillsets in mind-- all to teach students how to work toward, achieve, and exceed their personal and professional goals.
I know that each student is different, so building a relationship with each was imperative to their success at Vista Ridge High School. With that in mind, my job description also included a tremendous amount of customer service, and if a student left VRHS feeling unequipped with the skills to gain employment, earn a certificate, or apply to college, then I have done that student a disservice. I pride myself on building a professional rapport with both students, families, and our school's community; I also take pride in student success.
