Our Veterans Day Band Concert will be on Tuesday, November 4 at 7pm at DMS.  Please invite your family and friends who are serving or have served so we may honor their duty.  The 6th, 7th, and 8th Grade Bands will be performing.

The 8th Grade Band enjoyed a field trip to Jacobs High School to work with Mr. Gnutek on Wednesday, September 24.  Thank-you to the chaperones who attended with us.

The 7th Grade Band will travel to DCHS on 10/14 and the 6th Grade Band will travel to HHS on 10/30.  8th Grade Band students will travel to their feeder high school on 10/21 (JHS), 10/23 (DCHS), or 10/28 (HHS) to rehearse and perform with the high school Wind Ensembles.  

Our 8th Grade Chorus will perform in the D300 Choral Festival at Hemmens Cultural Center on Monday October 20th at 7pm. They are doing a great job preparing their songs and will be joined by the top choirs of the 5 middle schools and 3 high schools. Remember that all students will need to wear a white top, black bottom, dress shoes for this event. 

Bella Voce and Valiant Voices uniforms will be ordered early this month. Some Bella Voce girls will need to get their dresses hemmed and possibly altered after receiving them. Please do not wait too long as we need them ready by November. VV boys will need to provide their own long sleeve white button shirt, black dress pants, black socks, black dress shoes.

Music Polos will be ordered early this month as well and students should receive them by the end of the month. 

Students will be tested on their sightreading in small groups for their 1st quarter summative. 6th grade will need to know the major scale with all their hand signs and solfegge. We do this DAILY. 

7th and 8th grade students should have all logged into Sightreading Factory to create a student account by now. The student code is zzbzph. In quarter 2, we will start to have small singing assignments using their Chromebooks. 

Our Holiday concert is on December 16th at 7:00pm in the Main Gym. Please mark your calendars. 

Hello DMS Orchestra families!

The 8th Grade Orchestra recently performed in the D300 West Side String Festival at HHS. They played three pieces of music with 8th graders from HMS and WCS, alongside HHS and JHS Chamber Orchestra Members. They played beautifully! Congratulations!  

Our first DMS Orchestra concert is November 12th, 2025 @ 7pm in the Gym. Students will wear their concert uniforms (red polos, black dress pants or floor length skirt with black socks and black dress shoes). Student arrival time is 6:30 pm.

We are still awaiting approval on our final concert date in May and will communicate it when we know more!

6th grade students need to have their orchestra books from last year, Essential Elements for Strings Book 1. The 7th and 8th grade students need new method books for class as well as the books from last year. 7th grade orchestra students need Essential Elements Books 1 & 2 for their specific instrument. 8th grade students need Essential Elements Book 2 & Essential Technique Book 3 for their specific instrument.
