In 6th Grade Social Studies, we are starting the year with our Painted Elephant Competition. We will also be exploring Ancient China through various activities including the creation of a Relief Map. In this unit we will discuss the different dynasties, ancient philosophies, and inventions. We will then begin our exploration of Ancient Greece which includes topics like Alexander the Great and the creation of democracy.
Your student is currently studying “Forming a New Nation” in Social Studies. This unit explores how America’s leaders built a new government after independence—balancing power between the states, individuals, and the national government. Students will examine the three branches of government and delve into the importance of the Bill of Rights.
To support your child, discuss the Bill of Rights together and talk about how those freedoms impact our lives today. You might also explore differing views on how much power the government should have—a debate that continues even now.
In 8th Grade Social Studies we are staring off 3rd Quarter with our unit on the Great Depression. In this unit students will learn about the causes of the Great Depression such as the stock market crash, what life was like for families during that time, and how FDR's New Deal helped bring the nation back to stabilitity. After this, students will start our World War II Unit, which go go through February!
