All Social Studies students will participate in a Painted Elephant competition at the beginning of the semester. Also, starting in January students will begin exploring Ancient Egypt! Students will learn more about the Pharaohs of Egypt and the construction of the pyramids, and they will explore the various GRAPES factors of the civilization.
In February, our 7th grade students are beginning the unit “Westward Expansion” in Social Studies. They will understand how America acquired their contiguous territory in pursuit of the concept of Manifest Destiny. Students will also learn about the impact of groups who participated in the westward movement through the research and writing of a digital children's book.
In 8th Grade Social Studies, we have finished our Roaring 20s/Great Depression Unit and will be starting our World War II Unit. In the first half of this Lesson students will be learning about what caused WWII to start, what led to the US entering the war, as well as the fighting happening on the two fronts (Europe and Pacific). The second half of the lesson students will learn about the war effort at home such as conservation efforts, as well as the way different races were affected by the war.
