6th Grade Science

February
February is all about GRAVITY in 6th grade science. The students investigated how gravity works in space using a fun simulation called NSTMF Gravity Lab. The goal for the students is to describe and explain how gravity works, how objects orbit in space, and how gravity has formed and shaped our Solar System. It will be out of this world. Please sit down and check grades with your child. If they have missing work, they should be able to explain why and show the assignment to you. Look for summative assessments in 2-3 weeks. One of them is an essay assessment which is always a challenge. Tools for preparing are always present on the daily Schoology pages.
7th Grade
Seventh grade is finishing our unit called Kelp Forest. We have been learning about the interaction between living things and their environment. We will be having our summative the second week in February on this topic.
Our next unit will be about cellular reproduction and genetics. We will learn how traits are passed on and the structure and function of our DNA.
As a reminder, assignments for each unit are due before our summative on that section. Missing work not done before that time will remain a zero in the grade book.

8th Grade
January
Eighth grade students will be using the Science and Engineering Practices to learn about waves and their applications in technology. We will look at a wireless speaker system to figure out the role that mechanical and electromagnetic waves play in how it works. We will examine the relationship between a sound wave's amplitude, frequency, and wavelength and how something sounds. We will also investigate different types of electromagnetic radiation and how it can be helpful or harmful.
