6th graders will be starting to read "The Lightning Thief" by Rick Riordan. We will follow Percy Jackson's journey as we learn about Greek Mythology. We'll be focusing on character traits, figurative language, and plot.
7th graders will finish reading The Giver by Lois Lowry. While students read the story, they kept track of how Jonas's perspective about his community changed throughout the novel. Students are now in the process of using their findings to complete their Quarter 2 writing summative.
Students in ELA will be creating holiday cards based on a lesson called "The Joy of Giving." These cards will be delivered to various retirement communities.
The 8th grade will continue reading Holocaust literature in the form of book clubs. Some options of titles for students include the following: Prisoner B-3087, The Boy on the Wooden Box, The Boy Who Dared, The Berlin Boxing Club, Between Shades of Gray, and more!
The culminating summative task for this quarter is related to the theme development in their book club novels. Students will write an essay about how a specific theme develops in the text.
Students will continue learning various idioms until the end of the quarter. To keep your kid from being behind the eight ball and to give them an ace up their sleeve, use idioms as much as possible to keep them on their toes with language skills.
