December 2024
The 6th grades have been challenged recently. They just took their very first essay test. Reading their responses, many students couldn't quite get the whole answer out of their heads and earned a 4/5 points. Considering this is their first essay test, we are happy with the grades the students earned; however, you may see that their quarter grades have dropped. They will have one more summative assessment before break to try and bring up their grades, they will have to study!!
We have just begun our unit on the Moon's Phases and Solar and Lunar Eclipses. Sunday was the New Moon, which we cannot see because the far side of the moon is lit up. Look into the sky at night and you will see a sliver of moon turn into a crescent and the lighted side will grow. Ask your kids about what's happening up there.
7th Grade
Seventh grade continues to explore cellular functions as we move through out unit called Healing Cuts. Currently we are learning the major cell parts called organelles. We will then explore differences between plant and animal cells. Before the end of November we will have a summative where students will be asked to explain how the parts of a cell work together to perform all their functions such as healing. You can help your child at home by asking questions about what we are doing in class and offering to help them study their parts of a cell.

8th Grade
Eighth grade students have taken their first summative of the quarter on gravity. They are able to provide evidence that gravitational interactions are attractive and depend on the masses of the interacting object. Students will be conducting investigations and evaluating experimental designs to provide evidence of magnetic and electric fields.
