Sixth grade science will finish up our investigation of the Strange New Planet and the students will take their summative the last week of the quarter. The Strange New Planet is an exoplanet revolving around the habitable zone of the star closest to Earth. The kids have put on the shoes of scientists and engineers at NASA to investigate this discovery. They have learned about the exciting field of studying exoplanets to try and find life outside our Solar System. We have viewed the exoplanet in four different ways, analyzed our data and planned to send a lander to Proxima b, the Strange New Planet. Additionally, throughout our investigation we have used many of the science and engineering practices. These are guiding skills in science that the students are learning about and will use throughout the years to come.
Following our investigation, we will learn about the Earth, Sun, Moon system.

7th grade students will be finishing up our cells unit with the final summative coming before winter break. We are excited about the upcoming dissection of a cow eye and practicing our dissection skills. Students will be introduced to biomolecules before break to prepare them for our next unit centering around ecology, energy transfer and food webs.
8th Grade

Eighth grade students will be using the Science and Engineering Practices to learn about Motion and Forces. Force is a push or a pull on an object, which is a fundamental interaction that can cause a change in its motion. Motion is the process of an object changing its position over time in relation to its surroundings. Unbalanced forces cause objects to accelerate, meaning their speed or direction of movement changes, while balanced forces result in no change to an object's existing motion.
