December – Module 4: Working with Decimals
This month, students will be using all four operations—addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division—to solve problems with decimals. When adding or subtracting decimals, it’s important to always line up the decimal points. Students will also review the rules for multiplying and dividing decimals.
Calculators will not be used during this unit so students can strengthen their computation skills.
Looking Ahead – January (Module 5): Understanding Ratios
In January, students will begin exploring ratios. They’ll learn to write a ratio in three different ways, find equivalent ratios, complete ratio tables, and calculate unit rates.
7th Grade Math
This month in 7th grade math, students are learning how to multiply and divide rational numbers, including fractions, decimals, and negative numbers. We’re exploring patterns with signs — remembering that a negative times or divided by a negative equals a positive!
7th Grade Accelerated Math
This month in 7th grade math, students will be solving two-step equations. Students are learning how to use inverse operations to “undo” addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division in order to isolate the variable. We’re building on our understanding of one-step equations and applying these skills to more complex problems, including those with negative numbers and decimals.
8th Grade Algebra 1A
December 2025
We just completed Module 5.1 covering slope from a graph, a table, and 2 points. Slope tells us how steep a line is or how much something changes compared to something else. In math, slope is the “rise over run” which is how much a line goes up or down (the rise) and how much it goes across (the run). Slope is used in construction and engineering such as to design ramps, roofs, and roads safely. It is also used in economics & business such as with graphs showing money or growth, slope shows how fast something is increasing or decreasing (like sales or profit). Our next unit will cover writing equations in slope intercept form and proportional relationships.
8th Grade Honors Algebra
December 2025
In December, students will begin studying systems of equations. They will learn how to solve systems using three methods: graphing, elimination, and substitution. Throughout the unit, students will apply these techniques to analyze relationships between equations and solve real-world problems.
Please note that Final Exams are scheduled for December 17 and 18. Students will receive review materials and dedicated class time to help them prepare.
