To Mr. Bishop’s students:
I am sorry for your loss. But there is something you can do.
Go out and be kind. Encourage someone. Support someone by going to their performance. Smile at someone. Talk to someone. Laugh. Sing. Hug. Make music. Perform. Spread joy. Spread love.
The oldest of you are in your late 20’s. Mentor someone. Teach someone. Sponsor someone’s dream. Help out in your communities.
Go be Matthew Bishop
Imagine a world with Matt Bishop times 1000. Times 5000. Go be Matt Bishop. That’s his legacy. Be part of it.

This song is about persevering during difficult times. Have a listen, it also highlights how people feel alone when they in crisis. Please, observe your friends and family for signs they might need your support. When you give support before someone asks for it, they feel seen and loved. Many people will not ask for help when they need it. Imagine what Mr. Bishop would do.

Comments from Nathan Mills
It is really hard to believe that Mr. Bishop is actually gone, and even harder for me to put the sense of loss I - and everyone else - feels into words. Mr. Bishop was truly a one in a kind teacher/person, and it will be impossible for anyone to fill his shoes. In just 34 years of life, and 11 1/2 years here at DMS, he touched so many lives, and brought joy to so many, not just here at DMS, but in the entire community. His sense of humor and love of music is his greatest legacy, along with his pure dedication to Dundee Middle School, in addition to all the other various things he led outside of DMS. His death has left many people heartbroken, which shows his true impact on the world, and how he touched the hearts of so many.
In order to pay tribute to Mr. Bishop, I decided to make a comic book featuring some of my favorite Mr. Bishop jokes. It is linked HERE. Please only read it if you are in the right state of mind, as it is intended to bring joy, not further heartbreak. ~Nathan Mills
Stay tuned for our next edition where we will further memorialize Mr. Bishop. Please click HERE to express yourself about Mr. Bishop and add photos.
Musical Update By: Grace Birkett
It has been a little over one month since the amazing cast of Seussical Jr. started their work on bringing this awesome show to life for their performances at the Blizzard Theater in April. So far, they have mastered the singing and choreography for their opening song “Oh The Thinks You Can Think”, and have perfected the last four songs of the musical as a full cast. Outside of full cast rehearsals, the leads have been working hard memorizing their lines and songs to make their role come to life. The Jungle Chorus has been working hard on their song “Biggest Blame Fool” while the Who Chorus has been working extremely hard on their song “Solla Sollew." The cast, parent volunteers, and directors are working hard to make this a great show!
All About The Avid Field Trip By: Sanvi Chatterjee
February 8th was the day that the thrilling 6th grade AVID field trip took place. The students went to Now Arena to watch the Windy City Bulls take on Osceola Magic, and learn about the different career options present in the sports world. It was good opportunity to learn about careers while also incorporating excitement into it. During the career panel, five employees were interviewed and had answered questions and talked about things like biggest challenges of working for the Windy City Bulls. The field trip was an amazing opportunity to learn about occupations and certain sacrifices that have to be made, while also allowing the students to have fun and stay entertained.
Who Is Mrs. Beere? By: Nathan Mills
On January 8th, 2024, Mrs. Beere (pronounced “Berry”) taught her first day here at Dundee Middle School. She teaches four periods of 8th Grade Science, one period of 6th Grade Science, as well as 8th Grade ELT. She is in no way new to teaching, and has taught for over a decade. A graduate of Mount Mary University and then Cardinal Stritch University, the Milwaukee native has taught previously both in Kenosha and Kansas City.
Teaching was by no means her first job though, and before being a teacher, she worked in a quality control lab, testing enzymes and probiotics. However, after doing a lot of work with kids, she knew that teaching was her true calling, and switched careers.
She took time off from teaching after the birth of her son, and in that break, she moved to Gilberts, before going back to teaching, and teaching here at DMS. She really enjoys teaching at DMS not only because of how close it is to her house, but also because of the culture of the school, and how friendly the people are here.
What's Next For The Fortnite Seasons? By: Martin Tovar Serrano
Almost all of the various Theory Youtubers have the same predictions for the next season of Fortnite. The concept for it revolves around the return of Midas in the Fortnite Universe. First, the theorists talk about how there are Midas artifacts and the Marigold yacht in ch5 s1. The Youtubers also think that Valeria, the leader of the underground society, has something planned with the rift butterfly. The Peely missing story is going nowhere, and there is no new news about this missing banana, but we do know that Oscar the tiger is the one that took him by the loading screen in the battle pass. There is also another theory that Valeria will dig up an unknown chest that is seen in Valerias room. There's a rumor that Little-Nas X will be in the next Fortnite season, but this is no real evidence for that. The new Fortnite season comes out March 8th, so stay tuned!

Bella Voce Makes Valentine's Special
Have you heard about the annual Valentine's Singing Grams before? But, your classroom never got one? Well, we’re here to fill you in on all the information about this fun event! Essentially, Mrs. Roy, the sponsor of the group, takes Bella Voce to different classrooms every Valentine’s Day to perform. During each song, one or two people sit in the middle on the special chair and are sung to. Bella Voce has relentlessly worked and practiced two awesome songs that they presented. These songs include “Baby Face” and “You Are My Sunshine.” They are both romantic, emotional and upbeat. Students were pleasantly surprised with the performance and described it as embarrassing, but fun and entertaining. Do you think you’ll be the next Valentine to be sung to? Find out on February 14, 2025!
The DMS Glow Party : Hugo Weingart
You missed out on a glowing good time! The glow items that you could buy were glow tubes, glow sticks, glow glasses, a free blow up microphone and two free glow sticks with the purchase of a ticket.
Now for the main event, The gym. The gym was crazy, it was dark but the glow sticks lit it up and if you ever needed a glow stick there were so many on the floor. One of the first things we did was the Cha Cha Slide, everyone joined the fun, it seemed like the whole gym was doing the Cha Cha Slide. You could feel the energy of the crowd.
Snacks were available, they included cotton candy, chips, candy, ice cream and water. Cotton candy was a bit hit, the staff couldn't keep up with the demand and the line got a little long.
Back in the gym, there were two dance battles, as always in a crowd, I never got to see those because the tall kids went in front of everybody.
The DMS glow party was tons of fun and we look forward for the next glow event.
Who Is Mrs. Stoxen? By: Victoria Flores Cortez & Alanna McCrate
On Friday, December 21st, our beloved librarian, Mrs. Stanley, left us here at DMS for a new library, and we interviewed her then for a look back on the past. Now, what does the future of the library hold? We have decided to interview Mrs. Stoxen, who worked in the IMC before Mrs. Neckar began.
Q: Have you worked as a librarian in other libraries before?
A: Yes I have! I was a library media specialist in Woodstock for ten years - that was a 1st-5th grade school. This is my first year working in District 300 and it has been so fun to work with all the different elementary and middle schools. I get to travel and work in lots of libraries and look at lots of books for the library to purchase.
Q: What is your favorite book or book genre?
A: I LOVE picture books, I am always checking them out from the public library to read with my kids and I have a pretty big collection of picture books about books and reading. My favorite picture book is Make Way for Ducklings by Robert McCloskey - it is black and white and something about the illustrations has always been so special to me. I am a big fan of the Penderwick series by Jeanine Birdsall, which is for middle grade. My favorite YA is definitely The Firekeepers Daughter, it was one of the best books I have read in a long time and Angeline Boulley, the author, just came out with her second book, which is related but not really a sequel. My favorite genre is mystery/police procedurals, so that is what I spend most of my time reading now.
Q: What was your favorite memory as a librarian so far?
A: My favorite memory was trying for a whole school year to help one of my fourth grade students find a book or genre that she enjoyed, and then we finally did and she became a reader and one of the students who was always in the library checking out extra books as a fifth grader. Another favorite memory was when our school won battle of the books - I was so proud of the students and how well they knew the books.
Q: How are you liking DMS so far?
A: DMS is only one of the schools I visit (I go to 23 schools throughout the month), but I was able to spend extra time there this past month until Mrs. Neckar was hired. I enjoyed my time here so much, and it has gotten me so excited about working with middle schoolers and reading more middle school books. I feel like DMS has such a great teaching staff and such supportive administration, I felt comfortable asking whenever I had a question or needed help. The students are great too, and I was happy to get to help checkout books and see what everyone likes reading right now.
Q: Do you have any plans to change anything in the library?
A: Mrs. Stanley did such a great job choosing books for the DMS library, and I'm excited for the next phase of the library remodel so there will be more shelving! Right now things are a little cramped but it will be fun to work with Mrs. Neckar to move things around and do some re-organizing. I think it would be fun to add some big signs to designate the different areas as well, maybe using the poster maker in the library.
