Board game club is a very simple club, you stay after school and play board games. The club goes from 3:45 till 5:15, but you clean your game up at 5:00. Mr. Scham hosts the club, making it a very energetic and fun time. Even though Mr. Scham hosts the club, the club is in Mr. Parrise’s room. Mr. Scham supplies board games, but you can also bring your own. You can even bring card games, if you prefer those. Calling all Magic the Gathering players, there is a group of students at the club who play the commander version. If you want to join the Board Game Club, check the Schoology page and sign up on Mr. Scham’s door. If you want to play Magic the Gathering, please supply your own deck if you have one, if not, that's okay. We hope to see you in Mr. Parise’s room.
What is robotics team? What do they do? What do the members think about it? How does it differ from the club? All those questions, and more will be answered in this article. With an exclusive interview from 7th grader Ellowyn Minot, we get a deep dive into the going on of the DMS Robotics Team.
To begin, the DMS Robotics Team consists of 9 students from 7th and 8th grade. These brilliant students go to school early in the morning twice a week to build and code their robots to have amazing functions such as pushing a ball into a goal, in preparation for the vex robotics competition in March and the Butcher Hydraulics challenge. Their hard work has really paid off as they had their first success with their robot in early January. The team is different from the club in many ways. The robotics team attends competitions, goes on field trips, and is a lot more serious about their robot building skills.
To add, the robotics club had their field trip to the Bucher Hydraulics Center in Elgin. While there they were able to learn about the fascinating working of hydraulic machines and how they are made. They then assembled two machines. One machine can rotate and the other lifts objects. They all had a great time and are excited to compete in the upcoming Hydraulics Challenge.
The members of the club really enjoy working as a team and showing off their smarts and skills. Ellowyn Minot said her favorite part of being on the team is, “the team building, and the Butcher Hydraulics Fluid Power Challenge”. She later stated she is, “very happy to in it, I’ll probably do it next year”.
In summary, the robotics team works hard to assemble robots using smarts and teamwork, that they later use to compete in challenges. They also take field trips to learn more about robotics.
