Dual Credit Information

Students who register for our course with Oakton Community College by college's dual credit cut-off date have the opportunity to earn college credit.  Except for a one-time $25 application fee charged by Oakton and paid via your NWHS student account, there are no tuition fees.

This is a two step process.

If you skip step 2 or don't complete the application, you are not enrolled.

Dual-Credit FAQ

As a parent I can comfortably say, yes.   You must do this.  I receive no benefit from you doing our course as dual-credit.  You don't know where your life will take you and you may have several careers over the next few decades each requiring some education.

Why should I pay $25?  Never pass up an opportunity to earn college credit for essentially free.  People pay $1k for a smartphone, a one-time $25 application fee for something that can only help your future makes sense.

Do I have to go to Oakton when I graduate?  No.

What if I don't want to be a Welder/CNC machinist/Engineer etc?  You may want to reconsider as these are good jobs but if not for you college credits may satisfy some elective requirements for whatever college program you apply for down the road.

What if I don't want to go to college?  That maybe true now.  However, life has taught me that you don't know where you will be ten, twenty, or thirty years from now.  I NEVER saw myself as a teacher back in the 1980's when I was a high school student.  Yes, never, is in bold, italics, and underlined.  I can't make it more clear than that.  But, I'm glad that I do now for working with young people is very rewarding.   Industry changes, life changes, you want to give yourself the most flexibility to be in the best position possible in life.  Your future happiness depends upon it and how you change yourself to face those challenges.

Beginning Fall 2022 there is an additional Occupational Safety course required by Oakton that is not offered by our school.  Please check back.
