You may recognize the names Dorothy Vaughan, Katherine Johnson and Mary Jackson from the 2016 film Hidden Figures, a film highlighting the women and their journey on their way to becoming some of NASA's most prominent 'human computers.'
Although they are acclaimed today, these women's stories portray the many hardships they faced along the way, including gender and racial discrimination. These women found a way to thrive in the face of adversity, paving the way for other females in similar roles, as well as promoting significant change in the work place. Their stories are not ones to be ignored, as they played such vital roles in the early steps of NASA's space program, changing the world forever.Â

Mary Jackson took advanced classes to become NASA's first black female engineer in 1958
Katherine Johnson, in addition to her amazing accomplishments at NASA, lived to be 101 years old!
