Governor's School Foundation
Rising costs coupled with limited funding have prompted many public educational institutions to seek partnerships with individuals and organizations within the private sector in order to enhance the educational opportunities offered to students. The Central Virginia Governor’s School Foundation is a nonprofit, tax-exempt 501(c)(3) type 1 corporation formed to receive contributions from individuals, organizations, businesses, and institutions for the purpose of promoting and enhancing the educational program provided for students by the Central Virginia Governor’s School for Science and Technology EIN: 54-1441933.

Foundation Bylaws
The Foundation is governed by a Board of directors made up of CVGS parents or representatives of corporate partners. Foundation funds are used to supplement the normal operating budget of the Governor’s School and provide for the CVGS "margin of excellence" activities. Foundation funds provide students with access to state-of-the-art technology; support for research projects; trips to regional, state, and even national research fairs and symposia; and student and staff recognition, including over $170,000 in student scholarships each year. The CVGS Foundation provides funding for several different scholarships for CVGS seniors. The largest scholarships are the Ann C. Wells Memorial Scholarship and the CVGS Founders' Scholarship. Eligible seniors are invited to apply for both.
Ann C. Wells Memorial Scholarship for the Advancement of STEM Fields (up to $72,000 each)
The Ann C. Wells Memorial Scholarship is awarded annually to two CVGS students. Each scholarship provides up to $18,000 per year and is renewable for up to three additional years, totaling $72,000 per recipient.
These scholarships are both need-based and merit-based. The CVGS staff selectes awardeesfrom among applicants who meet the financial need and academic criteria and who submit all required materials by the published deadline.

The Founders' Scholarship ($10,000 each)
The Founders’ Scholarship is awarded to two CVGS seniors each year. These students exemplify academic excellence, leadership, and outstanding character. The application process includes submission of academic transcripts, standardized test scores, and responses to a series of essay questions.
A Scholarship Committee—comprised of members from the Foundation Board and the Industrial Advisory Board—reviews all applications and selects a group of finalists to advance to the interview stage. From these finalists, the Board selects two recipients, each of whom receives a one-time $10,000 scholarship to support their higher education expenses.
Other CVGS Scholarships ($1,000 each)
The CVGS Faculty Award of Excellence: We call the most prestigious academic award given to Governor’s School students the Faculty Award of Excellence. Each year, the faculty has the very difficult task of selecting two seniors to receive this award. The students we select exemplify the academic maturity and high achievement that are the goals and hallmarks of the Governor’s School program. We recognize these students for their consistent effort and self-discipline, their analytical thinking and mental flexibility, and their intrinsic motivation to make the most of the opportunities provided at the Governor’s School.
The Brandi Nichols Leadership Award: This award honors a deserving senior who embodies the leadership excellence that Brandi Nichols demonstrated during her time at CVGS.
The Larbie Mensah Memorial Scholarship: awarded to a senior who exemplifies the positive spirit, enthusiasm, and outgoing sociability that were hallmarks of Larbie's interactions with his peers.
