Dr. Smith to Retire June 30, 2026

The Central Virginia Governor’s School Governing Board announces an upcoming leadership transition. Director Dr. Stephen Smith will retire on June 30, 2026, after sixteen years. Following a comprehensive search, the Governing Board voted unanimously on November 10, 2025, to appoint Assistant Director Dr. Scott Douglass as the next director, effective July 1, 2026. CVGS 2025-26 Calendar Updated

At its August 6 meeting, the CVGS Governing Board updated the CVGS Academic Calendar for 2025-26. A single change was made; in order to avoid a conflict with Heritage High School Athletics, the Senior Recognition Ceremony was moved to May 17, 2026. You can find the approved calendar HERE. Regional Science Fair

The annual Central Virginia Regional Science Fair (CVRSF) will take place on Saturday, March 14 at CVCC. More information coming soon!

2026 Annual Research Symposium

The annual CVGS Research Symposium is Wednesday, April 22 from 7:00 - 8:45pm at the University of Lynchburg - Schewel Hall. Full schedule will be shared closer to the event.
