Mrs. Michele Siegle Chamot

Introduction

I am excited to be teaching CVGS Research! Each year brings new and exciting ideas from the students. I love being in the classroom and helping students discover the amazing things science has to teach them! Before CVGS, I taught in Prince William County Schools at Gar-Field High School as a biology teacher, teaching both general and honor’s 9th grade biology as well as upper level International Baccalaureate (IB) courses. Prior to teaching, I worked at the National Science Foundation (NSF) reviewing biology research projects for funding. This opportunity allowed me to see the variety of wonderful research being done by researchers across the country --and to meet many of them.

Education

I am an EC Glass graduate and am happy to be a part of the community I came from! I attended college at the College of William and Mary, where I earned my B.S. in biology with a minor in anthropology. For graduate school, I attended the University of San Diego, where I earned my M.S. in Marine Science conducting research with sea turtles in Mexico. While at NSF, I earned my teaching license through George Mason University. I am continuing to take courses from the University of Virginia to remain a life long learner. 

Personal

I am a Virginia native, although I have lived in several different places in the state. I have a daughter, Madison. She loves karate, band, and all things nature.  In my free time I enjoy playing in my church handbell choir, reading, good movies, hiking, and building a native plant community in our yard. I got married in October of 2020, which made for an exciting fall during a weird time in our history!

I do enjoy traveling and have been to Germany, England, Russia, Jamaica, the Cayman Islands, Mexico, many US states, a trip with students to the Grand Canyon and Zion National parks, and a trip to Costa Rica with students from CVGS. I hope to continue my travels to new and exciting places!
