All work should be completed during class. Homework is generally due at the start, and Guided Practice is due near the end. If no specific time is announced, follow these guidelines. Late work is considered Missing Work.
Missing work receives a zero until it is resolved, which will lower your grade. Avoid missing work when possible (the recovery policy may help). Handling missing work depends on whether it is excused by CVA, which is determined by CVA Administration according to the student handbook.
If you miss class for an excused reason, make sure your parents submit the absence to the CVA office for approval. Once you receive official approval, follow the options outlined below.
Homework, Exams, Project, Etc
College View Academy has a one-to-one plus one day policy. Complete missing work within the number of days you were absent plus one extra day. Add “Excused Absence” in the comment line in Google Classroom. The absence will be verified by the office. Work will be graded without penalty, and you keep full redo rights (but there is no extension on redo 1-month policy).
Guided Practice
Guided Practice cannot be made up for any reason. Once your excused absence is approved, add “Excused Absence” to the comment line in Google Classroom and submit the assignment even though there’s nothing to upload. The absence will be verified, and the assignment will be excluded from your grade with no points and no penalties.
If you do not have an excused absence from the office for the date the assignment was due, then there are two possible scenarios to consider.
Homework, Project, Etc.
Until fully completed and submitted, unexcused assignments are marked as Missing and count as zero. Once submitted, they mirror your unit score—for example, if your unit score is 78%, the late unexcused assignment will also be 78%. While there is not specific artificial penalty for unexcused late work, it does not raise your grade above your overall unit grade and is not eligible for the redo/recovery program.
Guided Practice
Guided Practice cannot be made up for any reason. This will be a zero in the gradebook
Exams
Even with an unexcused absence, exams must be made up following the one-to-one plus one policy. As there was an unexcused absence on an exam communication with parents and CVA administration may be required. Other penalties may follow.
