Building a Bridge to Your Future
The Puente Project is a nationally recognized, UC-sponsored program designed to help underrepresented students navigate the path to a four-year university. At CVHS, Puente provides a supportive "familia" environment where students grow into scholars, leaders, and mentors.
Puente offers a consistent support system for all four years of high school. We bridge the gap between high school requirements and university expectations, ensuring no student has to navigate the complex college system alone.
Our Mission: To increase the number of underrepresented students who enroll in four-year colleges, earn degrees, and return to the community as leaders and mentors.
1. Academic Excellence
Puente English (9th & 10th Grade): Students join a two-year English cohort. The curriculum focuses on high-level literature from Latino, Chicano, and other diverse authors, ensuring students see their own cultures reflected in their studies.
College Prep Seminar (11th & 12th Grade): Every Wednesday during Zero Period one semester per year, upperclassmen receive support for the college application process, financial aid (FAFSA), scholarship hunting, financial literacy and independent living skills.
2. College & Career Exposure
University Visits: We host regular trips to California university campuses so students can envision themselves in a college environment.
Statewide Events: Students attend conferences featuring professional keynote speakers and workshops on academic success.
Universal Recognition: The Puente curriculum is recognized and respected by all major universities during the admissions process.
3. Leadership & Community
The Puente Club: A student-led space at CVHS for socializing, organizing, and peer support.
Mentorship: A core goal of the program is for students to earn their degrees and return to their communities as leaders.
Community Service: Students build a competitive college resume through local service and cultural events.
