TCI is our newly adopted science curriculum. TCI is designed for the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). We will cover the following units:
In addition to TCI, we will be using Mystery Science, which is a program that provides ready-made science mysteries for kids. Each lesson contains a central mystery, discussion questions, reading, and a hands-on activity.
Unit 1: Students will develop an appreciation for the manmade materials of everyday objects, and learn to recognize that those materials are chosen based on their properties.
Unit 2: Students see that water isn’t just something we drink. It carries sand to create beaches, carves out canyons and valleys and, as ice, scrapes entire areas flat.
Unit 3: Students will learn that plants have needs, and will reason from evidence to understand how plants meet their needs.
Unit 4: Students gain practical experience in identifying animals and sorting them into scientific groups, and apply their knowledge in an engineering design challenge.
