Who can audition? 

The Character Cast Auditions are open to all Chabot 4th and 5th graders who are already signed up for the Character/Speaking Cast. Every student who auditions will get a character part! 

What happens during an audition? 

Each student will audition by themselves for the Directors via Zoom. 

Our auditions are meant to be fun and a bit challenging, not hard or stressful.  

We will ask students to:

- Read a short set of lines from a scene (we are looking for Line skills such as: Volume, expression, energy, clarity)

(For auditions there is no need to memorize the lines, we will share the screen for them to be able to read them as they say them)

-Show us emotions including facial expression, verbal expression along with physical action

-We do not ask students to audition for a certain role. 

How do we Cast?

Casting is done by our Directors and every effort is made to provide students with a role where they can be comfortable, continue to grow with confidence, and hopefully exceed their own expectations.

Students do not audition for a specific role and are looked at from a fresh perspective from 4th grade to 5th grade. 

-5th graders that may have been in smaller roles last year are equally considered for all roles this year.

-4th graders are looked at as equally as 5th graders for all roles.

Casting needs vary based on the production chosen each year and is not a simple process. Every effort is made to utilize the skills of each student based on their audition and the roles available. 

The commitment to audition needs to include the understanding that students may not get the role they desire. Auditioning means they will accept the role they are offered. Students need to think if they are willing to give up other after-school activities, regardless of the role they are given. Ensemble roles are a very important part of the Chabot Drama Club-they bring life and excitement to every scene and are carefully cast.

Auditions will take place via Zoom. 

(students will be assigned one day only)

An audition schedule will be posted on the website and in Mrs. LaBang's window on Friday, Oct.14

Should there be an after-school conflict, such as Tutoring or RTI please email us so we can make different arrangements. 

On their assigned Audition day students will be asked to check-in at 3:30 for an audition overview and then asked to check back in at their designated time.
