Dear Parents of Incoming Third Graders,
We are so excited to have students enjoy some great books this summer! In our class, we try to instill a love of reading for pleasure as well as reading to learn. With summer reading, it is most important that reading is enjoyable. The recommended books on our summer reading list are those that are consistent with our classroom themes and topics studied over the course of the year, and we think students will enjoy them! We encourage visits to the public library, using Epic for both independent reading and audiobooks, and allowing student choice and autonomy to select books. Many of the picture books on the list below are also available as read alouds on Youtube, some by the author themselves! Summer reading should be a combination of reading independently and reading with someone. When reading with students, please model fluency and expression, and talk with students about the book. As always, for your child’s age, we recommend that your child reads for at least 20 minutes per day. We hope that your child enjoys a summer filled with reading!
