Dear Parents of Incoming Second Graders,
Below is a list of suggested books to enjoy with your child before school begins in the fall. While there’s no required number of books to read, a goal of uninterrupted 20 minutes of reading per day is a great target.
We recognize that children enter second grade at different reading levels and with a wide variety of interests. We encourage you to help your child select books that both spark their curiosity and support the development of reading fluency. All second grade selections are Accelerated Reader books so students may take optional AR quizzes in the fall.
By nurturing a love of reading and keeping literacy alive throughout the summer, you’re setting your child up for a strong and confident start to first grade!
Sincerely,
The Second Grade Teachers
