Room 3 Distance Learning

Welcome to Room 3's Distance Learning Website

2020-2021!

This is the Distance Learning Website for the 2020-2021 year. For class website for 2021-2022 school year, please visit: https://sites.google.com/cusdk8.org/room-3-website/home

As we start the year in distance learning, I am looking forward to partnering with you to help your child grow and learn in this different and new climate. Please know that this is a difficult situation for all of us. Young children thrive best through connected experiences, hands-on learning, and lots of communication – none of which are ideal in an online environment. That being said, I will be doing my best to provide opportunities for your student that will continue to help him/her learn. My year-end goal is for your child to be a self-confident, academically strong and socially responsible child who is eager and ready to go to first grade. I also understand that many of you have multiple children at home that you need to support, in addition to other work demands. Over time, your child should be able to complete the majority of the activities/assignments independently however, in the first few weeks or so, he/she may require more guidance/involvement from you.

Online Class Meetings

(Google Meet)

Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday we will meet via Google Meet

four times a day: 8:30am, 9:15am, 10:20am, and 11:15am

Wednesday we will meet once at 8:30 am

These meetings are to provide instructional time as well as time/space to connect with each other on a regular basis. They are intended for our Kindergarten students only – please no siblings. I will review behavior expectations with the students but here are a few things to keep in mind:

  1. Be aware of what will be in the background of your child BEFORE joining the meeting (please keep it appropriate)

  2. Remind students that they should stay in one place during the meeting – no running around or popping in and out of the video

  3. Please make sure the video is turned on – we want to see everyone’s faces

Logging onto Google Meet

We will be using a class nickname to log into Google Meets in which your child will need to be logged into their account in order to join. Please try logging onto your child’s account prior to the meeting. For our class nickname, please check Google Classroom or Clever.

For your child to log into his/her account, they will need their username and password. If your child is new, you should have received an InformedK12 form with ID and password from the District. Returning students received an email saying “your ID and password are the same” and a link to HelpDesk if they forgot.

If you are having issues accessing your child’s student account please visit CUSD Tech Help Desk

Weekly Assignments

Weekly Assignments be posted on Google Classroom and Seesaw. The weekly assignment plan will be posted on Google Classroom no later than 9:00am every Monday morning. If there is a holiday on Monday, assignments will be posted on Tuesday.

Please be sure to read through the entire week (plan often several pages long) to help your child prepare supplies needed for the upcoming assignments online during “live teaching”. Please do not allow your child to work ahead of schedule or use the supplies given for things other than school assignments. Once your child is done with all assignments at the end of the week, please “mark as done” on Google Classroom. If assignments need to be turned in, the assignment calendar will ask you to take a photo of the assignment and post the photo either to SeeSaw or Google Classroom. If the assignment calendar does not state to take and upload a picture of the assignment, your child is still required to complete it by the due date, but they do not need to turn it in.

Google Classroom and Seesaw

(online learning tools)

These are the online learning tools that I will use regularly to post assignments/activities and videos for the students. Students will also be able to complete and share activities here as well.

Google Classroom is where weekly assignments will be posted.

To join google classroom, you cannot use your own personal email (parent's email). You need to join with your child's google account and the corresponding password.

Here are the directions:

1. Go to classroom.google.com

2. enter your child's email and password

*Please let me know if you cannot access Google Classroom

Seesaw is a place where our class can securely post information/photos or our classwork. Students' can access Seesaw through clever. Details how students can log into Seesaw can be found under "Online Learning Tools."

Students are required to submit the Seesaw activities assigned. Seesaw assignments can always be found in the Seesaw app in Clever and need to be turned in on the Seesaw platform. If an activity is posted in Seesaw, it is a required assignment that needs to be turned in unless it is listed under “optional” on the activity or assignment plan. I will be tracking the completion of these assignments for participation/grading purposes. Please note that many Seesaw activities will not be available until the instructional block in which it will be assigned. Please do not take pictures of assignments and post to Seesaw if it is not required.

Daily Schedule

Detailed schedule for online meetings can be found under the "Daily Schedule" tab on this website. Please note that we will meet as a whole class daily. In addition, your child will also meet in small groups.

Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday we will meet via Google Meet

four times a day: 8:30, 9:15, 10:20, and 11:15am

Wednesday is designated for staff meetings, teacher collaboration, and teacher professional development. Students are expected to attend the Morning Daily Meeting at 8:30 am and curriculum assignments will be posted.

Creating a daily schedule with your child will help instill a sense of normalcy for all of you. Setting expectations for when your child should focus on school work, when you may be available to help, as well as when you cannot be disturbed will be important for reducing frustration throughout the day.

One note of caution, please do not expect your child to sit/focus on school activities for an extended period of time. While you may ask your child to be focused on school related items for up to an hour or so at a time, please understand that they will only be able to focus on a particular activity for up to 30-45 minutes MAXIMUM (this can vary greatly from child to child – some students may need more frequent breaks).

*Your child’s social/emotional health is of the utmost importance during this time. Some days your child may act out more frequently and/or refuse to do any work. Although frustrating, this is completely normal and may mean that you need to alter your plans for that day to give your child more attention and support.

Distance Learning Expectations and Assignments

We have been given guidelines of expectations based on directives from our district and the state of California. Based on these guidelines, here are the expectations we have of our students during our distance learning time period:

Students are expected to complete the activities on the weekly schedule of activities.

Students are expected to complete and turn in any of the activities posted on Google classroom and/or SeeSaw by the end of the week.

If an activity is posted, the expectation is that all students complete them to the best of their abilities and turn it. All activities assigned on the weekly schedule that are posted are expected to be completed and turned by 7pm on Sunday. I will be tracking the completion of these assignments for grading purposes.

Students are expected to complete the work with limited parent help. However, parents can help guide their child if they are struggling or do not understand. Parents are also welcomed and encouraged to help clarify directions (by reading the lesson plans), help with technical issues, or check in with their children to make sure they are on the right track. However, all of the work completed on the activities (especially the activities posted on SeeSaw) should be done by the students - parents should not be doing any of the work or correcting the work before the activity gets posted on SeeSaw.

Assignments will also be done during live meets. Due to differences in skill levels in the classroom, some students may not be able to complete their assignments in the given time frame with/without the teacher. Please try your best to have assigned work for the day completed by your child at the end of the day to reinforce accountability and organization. However, I understand that home learning has different challenges for everyone. If needed, activities can be rearranged throughout the week to fit each family's needs. The basic expectation is that all students are completing all of the activities each week to the best of their abilities. I would recommend completing the assignments on the days on which they are assigned in order to help with time management; however, as long as all assignments (including Seesaw activities) are completed by 7:00pm on Sunday they will be considered "on time."

Communication is vital to the success of our students! Please know that I am here to support you and I want to encourage you to reach out to me at any time @ Roberts-Tran_Tina@cusdk8.org
