District 200 offers students the opportunity to take Dual Credit courses. Dual Credit is an organized program between CUSD 200 and an area college or university. Students who successfully complete dual credit courses automatically earn both high school and college credit without the need of taking an additional exam, such as the AP test. Additional benefits include:
Students can begin their college careers early and start working on their college degrees while still in high school. This saves both time and money by reducing the number of courses needed to earn a college degree.
Students make a smoother transition from high school to college by learning the study habits that are needed to be successful in college before they are fully immersed in the college experience.
Students receive an actual college transcript upon completion of their dual credit course. Students who earn Dual Credit are far more likely to enroll and graduate from college.
To succeed in this program, students must have excellent study skills, self-discipline, and motivation. They also need to be mature and willing to take responsibility to attend classes and participate at the same level as regular college students.
In order to sign up for a Dual Credit course, first discuss this option with your parents and counselor. Then sign up for any of the classes listed below during course registration. Make sure your counselor is aware of your intent to take this course for Dual Credit. Once your class begins, please complete a dual credit student application, which will be provided to you by your teacher.
